🌱 Basic Fertilizer

Basic Fertilizer is a crafted item in Stardew Valley that increases the chance of crops growing into higher quality (silver or gold) versions. It is one of the earliest fertilizers available and can be crafted right from the start of the game.

Basic Fertilizer must be applied to tilled soil before planting seeds. Once placed, it lasts for the entire growing cycle of the crop.

Unlocked: Available from the start

Tip: Sap is dropped from chopping down trees and stumps, making Basic Fertilizer easy to produce in bulk early on.

📦 Uses

Improves crop quality when applied before planting seeds.
Can be used throughout Spring, Summer, and Fall.
Not effective in Winter (unless crops are grown in the Greenhouse or on Ginger Island).

💡 Strategy

Pro Tip: Buying Basic Fertilizer is not cost effective — always craft it from Sap instead of purchasing it.

Use on high-value crops (e.g. Cauliflower, Melons) to maximize profit from silver and gold quality harvests.
Sap is abundant, so producing fertilizer in bulk is essentially free.
Upgrade to Quality Fertilizer or Deluxe Fertilizer when possible for greater returns.
